Lipochrome, Melanin, and Melanin New Colors canaries competed in all
classes and sections as did all the Type Divisions and SONG,

Judges and Show Manager for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Best in Show in all 12
Divisions, for a total of 36 fabulous Crystal Awards. Six Special

Canaries, these included 3 hand crafted trophies of a State of Texas
exotic wood Award featuring a cast canary perched at the top and the
Club's award winning shield logo embedded at the center of the
State, each award a unique work of art designed and crafted by Mr.
Bill Duquette, President of the Florida Canary Fanciers Club. The
other three Special Awards were each a Recognition
Certificate with Gift from Avi-Culture and National Bird Designs,
Inc.
Of course, the highly desired NCA Medals and Specialty
Clubs Ribbons were also awarded.
The 2009 panel of judges:

Chicago, IL.
Lipochromes Mr. Giusseppe Mannino from New
York, N.Y.

Song, Spanish Timbrados Mr. Rafael Ortiz from Cordoba, Spain
Song, American Singers Mr. Sam Can from New Jersey
Many breeders said they were awed by and appreciated the
informative ways all our judges explained details of the birds they
were judging. Judges gave valuable insights and specific details
about breeding and showing winning birds that all participants,
newbies and experienced alike, highly valued and will use this very
next season! From all of us present, Thank you judges!
An
example was the work of the Type Canary Judge, Mr. Don Perez.
Don used an easel to display magnificent, highly detailed drawings
of each Type bird with specifics on every feature of that
breed. These were standards of perfection desired and valuations for
faults and shortcomings. Further, Don had these and other
information on a portable computer which he would use now & then to
further illustrate or highlight certain details and fully answer
questions from the gallery of breeders and exhibitors keenly
watching and listening to his judging process.
Newbies were treated to specific and detailed explanations of proper
show cage presentation and why these details play a crucial role in
enabling fine birds to fully "show off" their best attributes.
To many these eye opening, up close and detailed teachings will pave
their paths to success at future shows! More than one said,
"This is how Shows should work all the time!"
The Lone Star Club has always worked with
its chosen Judges to supply such value added to our participants.
Plan to come to Texas next October to experience it yourself!
